Strawberry Mai Tai cocktail

  • ¼oz simple syrup (brown sugar 2:1)
  • ¼oz orgeat
  • ¾oz lime juice
  • 3 medium strawberries
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • 1oz light/gold rum (Flor de Caña)
  • ½oz Jamaican rum, high proof
  • ½oz bourbon, high proof

Muddle the strawberries with the syrups and lime. Add spirits and shake well. Serve over ice in an old fashioned glass. Garnish: strawberries, or spent lime shells.

Things to try:

  • Add back the ½oz triple sec that would be in a normal Mai Tai.
  • Add a dash of maraschino liqueur.

Nutty variant

Replace the orgeat with amaretto. Reduce light rum to ¾oz, increase bourbon to ¾oz.

Bit less good.

Frozen variant

  • ¼oz simple syrup (brown sugar 2:1)
  • ¼oz orgeat
  • ¾oz lime juice
  • 6 medium strawberries
  • ¼oz triple sec
  • 2 dashes angostura bitters
  • 1½oz light/gold rum (Flor de Caña)
  • ½oz Jamaican rum, high proof
  • 3 ice cubes

Throw all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve in a chilled Collins glass.
